RFR NQW78 Ocean Station 'J' asked Prestwick if there was any news on Rafair NQW78 on a mail drop to us? Prestwick said no details available here, have you any more information?
OSJ replied, that a message received on the 9th April said that a Shackleton, call-sign NQW78, would do a mail drop between 12/1410 and 12/1430 and we were requested to keep watch on 3023.5 at 1300.
Prestwick advised that the flight had departed Kinloss at 1100 F080, for an exercise to OSJ. ETA 'J' at 1550 and he is commencing his exercise at 1430. The last contact with him was at 1115, nothing since.

This aircraft later served with the Columbian Air Force (as FAC1003) but ditched some 330 kms off the east coast of Cape May, NJ on 16/10/1982 when its navigation systems failed and it subsequently ran out of fuel. It floated for 56 hours!
