Interestingly this aircraft suffered a severe tail strike some ten years previously, on 29th January 1971, whilst taxiing at Sydney, Kingsford Smith IAP, Australia. It collided with a B.727 (VH-TJA) operated by Trans Australia Airlines, which was taking off. The DC-8 misread the clearance given and entered the active runway, which was not detected by the controller. There were no injuries amongst the 136 passengers and 12 crew.
