2nd June 1981
This clip covers communication between the RAF Croughton Radio station, based in the U.K. with a USAF KC-10A ("Extender") tanker, call-sign EXTEN 55, en-route from RAF Mildenhall to the Paris Air Show. The tanker was also missioned to refuel two B-52's (call-signs "PAX 41/42") who were flying from the States to Guam, Indian Ocean non-stop. The HF frequency at that time was 6750 kHz USB [See further details in my Posts Section for this date]
20th October 1983
This lengthy (36 minutes) and sometimes noisy, clip captures HF conversations between Shanwick Radio, Croughton Radio, Shanwick Oceanic (Prestwick), Gander Radio and two B-52's, call-sign's "EAT49/50". These two aircraft were on a Global Reach 'round robin' mission non-stop from/to the States. They had some difficulty in understanding their clearance with Shanwick Radio, as they were concerned that no provision had been made for their air refuelling. This necessitated a 'phone patch to the Oceanic Centre in Scotland when all was resolved. [Note: this item does not yet appear in my text Posts in this blog, due to a backlog in updating my records!]
